Distance Education Programs

With more than 200 distance learning courses, either web-based or hybrid, Cincinnai State has been a leader in distance education since 1995. In addition to an extensive slate of courses, several Cincinnati State programs of study are available through distance education.

Cincinnati State offers offers six associate degrees and four certificates completely online. Most programs can be taken by a blended delivery- a combination of online, hybrid, and traditional classroom courses. 

Associate Degrees

Business Technologies

The Accounting Technology degree provides students with knowledge of business fundamentals and understanding of all facets of the accounting profession, including tax accounting, cost accounting, computerized accounting, and auditing. Graduates earn an Associate of Applied Business degree and have a variety of employment opportunities in the accounting field.

The Business Management Technology program includes coursework that deals with contemporary practices in management, marketing, human resources, accounting, and organizational development. Through cooperative education work experience, students gain valuable insight and “how to” experience in assessing and solving real management challenges that businesses deal with every day. Graduates earn an Associate of Applied Business degree.

The Pre-Business Administration program provides students with the academic foundation needed for transfer to a bachelor’s degree program with a business-related major, such as business administration, accounting, finance, management, or marketing. Students earn an Associate of Arts degree and are well-prepared to begin their junior year in a bachelor’s degree program at the four-year institution of their choice.

Center for Innovative Technologies

The Computer Programming and Database Management program prepares students to design, program, and administer e-business and e-commerce systems on the Internet, using state-of-the-art programming languages and database technologies.

Graduates earn an Associate of Applied Science degree and develop skill in a variety of programming languages including C# and Visual Basic on the .NET platform, Microsoft SQL Server, Crystal Reports, HTML, PHP and MySQL, Classic ASP, Java Script, and XML. The online courses consist of short Internet-based videos, providing students with flexibility to complete degree requirements at home or in the office.
 

Health and Public Safety

The Health Information Management program prepares students to collect, integrate, and analyze primary and secondary health care data and to manage information resources related to health care services. Most of the core courses in this Associate of Applied Science degree are offered on the Internet or have an Internet component.

The Public Safety Technology program at Cincinnati State prepares students for positions of responsibility in safety and security organizations. Graduates earn an Associate of Applied Science degree while completing coursework in homeland security, emergency management, geographic information systems, law, terrorism, security management, and risk analysis.

Certificates

Business Technologies

The Accounting Certificate program is for those who have earned a degree in a different discipline and need accounting courses to prepare for the CPA exam or may need specific accounting skills for job promotion. This program is best suited for students currently employed in the accounting field.
Graduate Starting Salary Projections: Depends on student’s current employment

The Paralegal Certificate program prepares students for careers in the legal profession in three key employment areas: employees of attorneys, self-employed individuals who work for attorneys, and self-employed individuals who provide services directly to the public with attorney supervision. Students gain skills related to the major areas of legal practice, including general civil and criminal litigation. Students who are seeking the associate’s degree in Legal Assistant Technology may wish to add the Paralegal certificate to enhance their studies and career preparation.

Center for Innovative Technologies

The Advanced Surveying Certificate is designed for graduates of the Civil Engineering Technology-Surveying degree or other related associate degree programs. This cooperative venture with Northern Kentucky University has been approved by the State Boards of Registration in Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky, and serves as the third year of a bachelor’s degree program with Northern Kentucky University.
Applicants to the certificate program must meet with the program chair in order to be admitted, but coursework for the certificate can be completed online.

Program Prerequisites: Graduate from the Cincinnati State Civil Engineering Technologies Surveying Option, or complete comparable coursework. Meet with the certificate advisor prior to admission to the program.

Health and Public Safety

The Coding Specialist Certificate program prepares students for entry-level positions in outpatient clinics, physician group practices, billing companies, and insurance companies. Students develop skill in accurately assigning to various medical records the industry-standard codes that are essential for financial reimbursement.

New Distance Education Fee starting Winter 2012 term

Starting with the Winter 2012 term, all web-based courses will be assessed a distance education fee of $5 per credit hour. This fee will not be assessed toward hybrid classes.
